Day 29

After all the work happening underground the extension is starting to take shape. you can see where the shower room window and the garage room windows will be.

Here is the space for the door that B has just gone through to get in our current door.

After a lot of toing  and froing between the planning department, builder and our architect a decision has been made for the pitch of the roof to be 18.5 degrees. There will be an access door to this roof space from the second landing on our stairs.

Day 28

  • Bricklayer was back today but the rain limited how much could get done.  It is all covered up.

Concrete has been poured in to create our the base of the extension.

Apparently it  is lucky to put in the setting concrete so when everyone came back from gymnastics we all found a coin, placed it in and made a wish.

Had an email with another kitchen design this time from mkm.  Need to find out costs and then we can start making decisions.

Day 27

The brick layer is back and the outside wall is taking shape.   The metal grid on the floor has been beside the fence and I want sure what it would be used for.

Wall has started at the back.

Off to get a last kitchen quote tomorrow and then will decide who we are going with and hopefully finalise the design next week.

Day 26

Insulation is down now which means the plank is no longer needed to get into the house😊

The new steel corner at the back of the house has been secured to the concrete foundation.

Day 25

Lots of excitement this morning as a huge lorry with bricks parked outside our house.  It then drove off without dropping anything which I thought was strange until B told me it had dropped them at our neighbours across the road whose extension starts today.

Levelling happened today so it is all starting to take shape.

Great to see the progress I wasn’t sure about the drain that was at the side of the house yesterday but all covered up today.  Lots of bricks and wood have now been delivered ready for tomorrow

Day 24

The last bits of drains have been fitted.

B and I returned home today to a huge truck in the drive. He was really excited to see what it was. (The stones for the base of the extension). He was even more excited when Kevin said he could climb in the hole to jump in the house as the boards were temporarily down.

Here is B standing beside the toilet.

The back has had sand delivered and finished off.   I think it will all start to take shape this week.

Day 23

Drains must have passed their inspection as the big hole has been filled in.

All ready to go in the shower room

Had a great time at magnet on Saturday.  The designer came up with a very similar design to b&q. We had a play with a few options but think this is the layout that will work best.  We have all found one kitchen we really like so now need to decide if this is the  one or keep looking.

Day 22

Drains are all ready for testing on Monday. You can see where the toilet will be and the shower. Really interesting to see what happens underneath your house.    Looking forward to seeing another kitchen design tomorrow.

Day 21

All systems go today, I think the sun shining has made all the difference ☀️  The drainage inspectors came and have granted permission for the drainage to stay as it is. The builder can now finish the drains at the front. Then the inspector comes back to test the finished drainage system and the holes can all be filled in.

The back of the house had all been tidied up, it is great having such neat builders.

The brick layer was back, it is now taking shape.

B is most excited about the sloping plank to the house.

Day 20

Lots of progress today as the bricklayer came and started the walls. So you can see the footprint clearly of the front of the house.

Mark and I have been looking at kitchens over the last few months and decided we needed to start making some decisions before our builder tells is he needs the kitchen.

I had an appointment with a kitchen designer at b&q so was great to see visually what the space could look like.  We can now go online and change units and work surfaces and find a combination we like.  We have another appointment with magnet in Saturday morning so will be interesting to see how different the ideas are.  We are now making a wish list and prioritising what we need.
