Day 50

Mark came home to the stonemasons leaving having finished all the brick work at the front and back. All they need to do is come back and point it. It looks fab and we are really pleased.

I didn’t need to worry about my footprint I made in the concrete as there is now insulation on top of it. The internal wall has also gone up between the utility room and the new room.  This picture is looking from the back of the house to the front.

Lastly, the steel beam in the kitchen has been replaced. When the original was out in last week there was a lot of dust. So I stopped off to buy pizza on the way home for an easy tea, but actually very little mess. Really pleased this has happened so the walls will all be flush.

Day 49

I went out to take the pictures today and stood on what was the garages floor.  Nearly slipped as I realised there was a new screed on top that was still wet.   Had to use a bit of cardboard to spread it back out again.

Roofing felt has gone on today and some of the white plastic which I think will form the roof line.

Looks like just a tiny bit of the sandstone to do😀

Day 48

What was supposed to be a busy day today turned out not to be. The roofers were supposed to start today but turns out they aren’t coming until next Tuesday. Not a problem as the house won’t be secure until the roof is on and windows are in and they are not coming until next week.

Screed has been put down in what was the garage.

The stonemason was back and is almost finished. Hopefully he will finish tomorrow and then needs to pick the best day to come back and put the pointing in.

We sat with Kevin when I came home from work to discuss the next stages. We have chosen all the Sanitaryware for the shower room. Just need to wait for prices back to see if it is in budget!  They plan on putting the wall up between our lounge and kitchen next week to allow them to start moving the kitchen. The electrician is coming to disconnect the electricity in the kitchen to allow it to be stripped out so time to stock up the freezer with food that can be microwaved😀

Day 47

No photos today as nothing new to show other than all the insulation is now in the walls.

Mark has been to visit the plumb centre and we are closer to making final decisions for the shower room. We are both going to sit down with the builders tomorrow and get the order in.

Have been getting lots of ideas from bungalow bloggers books and magazines.

Day 46

First post at a weekend as the stonemasons came back today and have almost finished the front.  I am loving the window sills. I think the rest of the house would look much better with these 😊

 Another delivery from MKM

E and I went to the plumb centre to look at the sanitary ware for the shower room.  Thought this would be easy but too much choice. We have decided on shapes and chosen a tap but need to speak to plumber to get his advice about best toilet sitting and sink.

Day 45

Stonemasons are working hard in the front.  They are coming back tomorrow.

Insulation has been slotted into the spaces in the walls.

A minor problem with the new steel beam as it is not the correct ength. We think a new one is coming on Monday as otherwise there will be a bit of wall not flush in the dining area.

Day 44

Lots of comments from the neighbours about how fab the sandstone at the front is.

The builders put the new steel support in the kitchen wall.   Lots of dust in the kitchen so a good wipe down needed before the macaroni cheese could be made!

From the other side

Day 43

Lots of changes today. I came home from work to find the fridge in the hall and the shoe boxes in the living room.

This is to give space so the builders can remove the bit of wall that is going and put in a new steel.

Here is the wall from the other side almost cut away.

The doorway from the toilet is now fully formed.

Lastly the brick work is coming along nicely.

Day 42

The gable end is now finished.

And the slats are all on the roof ready for the roofers to come soon.

The roof space is looking huge. Our architect was round today and suggested we should consider a Velux window. Howeve as it is only for storage we are going to leave that.

The stonemason has started to to the brick work at the front.

Lastly they have broken through into the downstairs toilet to create the space for the door to the new room. It is boarded up just now for security.

From the other side.

Day 41

Work continued today on then roof with the slats starting to go in at the back.

The stonemasons have finished the bricking up the gable wall.  Yellow stones were delivered today for the front of the house.

Back at work tomorrow and am going to miss seeing the work in progress each day. I don’t think the builders will miss my million questions.
