We were all up early this morning as I was off to work and mark and the kids going to help set up the gala. Tilers arrived at 8. Decisions had to be made about direction of tiles and height as we needed to have a full tile at the bottom. Left them to it and came home and love it. We realised we needed tiles in the utility room so mark picked some up in top tiles and for an extra £30 they fitted them for us as well.
Circle security also arrived as we were leaving to redo our burglar alarm. It hasn’t been on since Mark got locked out the house😀. Cables are now in place for the new sensors so should be operational again soon.
The sink is now plumbed in so was great to get up this morning and be able to wash the dishes in the sink. I have got the cupboards cleaned and have put some of the plates and cups in there. Washing machine is plumbed in just need to sort the extension cable (thanks mum and dad) and get a wash on. Although mark managed to get mum to wash his football strips this afternoon! Thanks to both mums for helping out with all our washing over the last few weeks. We are going to miss everything coming back so neatly folded and ironed and all e and b socks the right way out.
Plasterer brought reinforcements today, his dad and brother and between them have finished most of the plastering only the living room and hall to do next week.
Builders had planned on narrowing the hall window to make a hatch but after marks suggestion to make it more a door shape they decided to do this and now have a fab door shape ready for a door. The pipes have also be been boxed in.
The kitchen has arrived. It was due for delivery between 8-8 not ideal with us both at work so dad was on stand by to come up when the builders left. However it came before they left so they have it all organised ready for installation to start on Monday.
Looking forward to the tiler coming tomorrow.
What a difference the plaster makes. The wall with the windows is all done as are the ceilings. Just the back room and the garage room to do before they do the living room.
Mark had to go back to ikea today as the sink we bought had indentations it shouldn’t. He managed to change it for the right one. The drawer unit is in the shower room ready to go in.
The hall window has now gone which has meant they have been in and out the insulation down and it is ready to floor. They will now create a door so we can easily access all the storage.
Loved coming home today to see the utility room installed. The builders used the old kitchen units and have it all fitted in perfectly The white worksurface makes it look different. Just need to wait for the plumbers to come tomorrow and connect the sink and washing machine to the pipe. Our mums will be pleased that we won’t be dropping washing off anymore, although we will miss it coming back ironed.
Plasterer has finished the showroom.
He has made good progress in the back.
The cupboard in the hall is all boarded up. Tomorrow the dip in the floor will be getting filled in so will be using the back door until it dries.
Plasterer arrived today and has made good progress already. Utility room is now ready to get fitted when it is dry.
He has started plastering the showroom and will finish tomorrow and start on the back room.
The toilet pipes have been boxed in. The shower tray has been fitted and the plumbers were back to put the pipes for the shower.
The hall cupboard has had screed put on its floor.
Mark has been and ordered the tiles. Everything starting to take shape now.
Early post today as the guys are finished. They have worked darn hard this week so well deserved. E was most pleased when the muscular, tattooed electrician arrived. Nice smile, down the stairs she went and gave him his cup of coffee. Walking back up the stairs towards me, smile is gone and she says, “He smokes, forget it.” Brilliant.
So, the sparkys were here to prepare electrics for the bathroom and garage room.
Meanwhile Kevin and Jamie did the walls in the bathroom and hall cupboard.
Looking good and almost everything ready for the plasterer on Monday. I went to Howdens today to order a work top for the utiliy room. was hoping for beech but that is discontinued so white it is. Not wanting to spend too much on it as it is only the utility room. I picked up a catalogue for doors that is as thick as a telephone directory so am glad there is not too much choice!!
Right, B at park with friends, E at ballet rehearsals and Karen at work. night shift tonight so time for a quick snooze. Do I set my alarm????????
Busy busy day here with school activities and trying to organise Gala football and Rigg race and then having to think about more important things like ordering tiles. Tiler came today and gave a cost for the work and suggested CTD to go to as he gets a good discount. We went there a couple of weeks ago and liked them so we have decided just to go there as there are so many places to choose from we could go on forever. He is coming back a week on Saturday so need to get our butts into gear to choose a tile. Now the difficulty is going to be when to go and choose them. This weekend is out but they open at 0730 during the week so that is our only option. Don’t tell the kids!
Builders busy again today and finished off the plasterboard for the garage room. We can now get a good idea of the size. Narrow but will be just fine for what we need it for.
When the tiler came this afternoon he mentioned the fact that the screed will take 16 weeks to dry before he could put tiles on the floor of the bathroom as it would raise them. Not good but hopefully we will be able to build a frame alternative and put in waterproof insulation that will be approved by people that approve things. Don’t fancy the thought of 16 weeks without a proper floor.
Wall was finished in the living room too.
Karen back now but I have been given permission to continue blog. Woop Woop. That is it for today folks. Friday tomorrow but it will be Nightshift for me. Think I will see if the builders can put a silencer on their hammers and nail guns so I can have a snooze 😜😜
Guten Tag everyone. Hope you are having a good day. All good here at one more room.com. Builders finished for the day and this is going to be a short post as there is not too much to tell and I have sworn several times whilst typing this paragraph.
Guys on good form today and have finished the walls in the dining area and back room.
The observant ones will have noticed AAAARRRGGGHHH 😡😡😡😡😡 Why is this ipad not typing what I want it too? I do not have chunky fingers! And relax. Anyway, the observant ones will have noticed that the doors to the dining area have been taken off as building regulations state that the door has to be wide enough for wheelchair access. Our stairs do not comply but they are pre existing so are fine. The difference?? Who knows? Need to start thinking about what doors we want.
Wall in living room is going to be finished tomorrow and they will work on utility room too, or maybe they said Friday. I was listening Karen, honestly. Plasterer comes on Monday to start on back room and dining area. That will be messy so I will make my escape.
Got a couple of sample tiles for bathroom that we think will go on floor and walls – whole of shower walls and halfway up other walls. What do you think? Tile on left or right?
That is it for today. Off to sort Gala football fixtures which is actually far more stressful than this building work😉😝
Greetings one and all, it’s me again. Wow, my legs are stiff after last nights match and my big toe is throbbing after getting kicked as well as the blister on the other side of it. And did I mention that I bit my tongue whilst being kneed in the back of the head and getting cramp in my left calf, all at the same time? All good though cos I am now days off now so I bought some beers to have tonight when kids have gone to bed and I can chill.
Better get the blog done first though. Did not see anyone again today but phoned and spoke to Kevin and he seems happy with how it is all going. We have a new shower –
He says it works so I will test it later. More plaster board has gone up in the rooms and kitchen and on the steel supports.
Insulation has arrived for the attic so that will hopefully be getting done this week.
Think that might be all for today. Have done the ballet run and now it is football. Thanks Auntie Jo for tea and thanks to Granny and Grandad for looking after kids.
